Can flooring be installed over existing tiles?

In many cases yes. Existing tiles must be level and structurally sound, with no cracked or hollow tiles. The height increase must also be considered, as it can affect door clearances and transitions to adjoining rooms. Final suitability should always be confirmed by a qualified TradePlus installer following a site inspection.

What warranty comes with your flooring products?

Warranty periods vary by product range. Many premium flooring ranges include warranties of up to 25 years for residential use. Warranties typically cover manufacturing defects, wear layer performance, and waterproof integrity. To maintain your warranty, ensure installation is carried out by an approved installer and follow the manufacturer's maintenance guidelines.

Is flooring suitable for commercial properties?

Yes. TradePlus supplies flooring solutions suitable for offices, retail stores, hospitality venues, healthcare facilities and commercial developments. For commercial projects, we recommend SPC Flooring or commercial-grade hybrid flooring with a minimum 0.5mm wear layer. Contact our team to discuss your commercial project requirements and receive tailored product recommendations.

What's the difference between Hybrid Flooring and SPC Flooring?

Hybrid Flooring combines waterproof technology with acoustic comfort and realistic timber appearance. It features a foam underlay layer built in, making it warmer and quieter underfoot — ideal for residential living areas and bedrooms. SPC Flooring uses a rigid stone polymer core for maximum durability and stability, making it better suited for commercial environments or areas with significant temperature fluctuations such as garages or conservatories.

How accurate is the Flooring Calculator?

The calculator provides preliminary estimates only, based on the dimensions and specifications you enter. Final quantities and pricing must be confirmed by an approved installer following a site inspection and accurate measurements. The calculator is designed to give you a quick ballpark figure to help with initial planning and budgeting.

How much does flooring installation cost in Australia?

Installation costs vary based on project size, location and flooring type. Most flooring installation projects range between $25 and $70 per square metre for labour. Additional costs may include subfloor preparation, removal of existing flooring, and trims or accessories. Use our Flooring Calculator for a detailed preliminary estimate, then connect with a local TradePlus installer for a firm quote.

What is the best flooring option for Australian homes?

The best flooring depends on your lifestyle, budget and room type. Hybrid Flooring and SPC Flooring are among Australia's most popular flooring choices because they are durable, waterproof and easy to maintain. For families with pets and children, we recommend Hybrid Flooring for its acoustic comfort and scratch resistance. For high-traffic or commercial areas, SPC Flooring offers superior rigidity and dimensional stability.

What is SPC flooring made of?

SPC stands for Stone Plastic Composite. The core layer is made from a combination of limestone powder, PVC and stabilisers, which creates an extremely rigid, dimensionally stable product. SPC flooring is 100% waterproof, highly resistant to temperature fluctuations, and does not expand or contract significantly with changes in humidity — making it ideal for Australian climates.

What is laminate flooring and is it still popular?

Laminate flooring is a multi-layer synthetic product that simulates the appearance of timber. It features a high-definition photographic layer beneath a transparent wear layer. While laminate remains popular for its realistic timber look and affordability, it has largely been replaced in Australian homes by Hybrid Flooring which offers similar aesthetics with the added benefit of being fully waterproof.

How long does flooring installation take?

Most residential flooring projects can be completed within 1–3 days depending on project size, room complexity and subfloor preparation requirements. Larger homes or projects requiring significant subfloor work may take 3–5 days. Your TradePlus installer will provide a timeline during the quoting process.

Is Hybrid Flooring waterproof?

Yes. Most premium Hybrid Flooring products are 100% waterproof and suitable for kitchens, bathrooms, laundries, living areas and family homes. The waterproof core means spills, splashes and pet accidents won't damage the flooring, provided they are cleaned up within a reasonable time. Always check the specific product's waterproof rating and warranty terms.

How much flooring do I need for my project?

Measure the length and width of each room and multiply to calculate square metres. We recommend adding 5–10% extra material for wastage and cuts. For example, a 4m x 5m room is 20m² — order 22m² to allow for waste. You can also use the TradePlus Flooring Calculator for an instant, accurate estimate tailored to your project.

Is SPC flooring good for high traffic areas?

Yes. SPC flooring is one of the best options for high-traffic areas due to its rigid core, dense construction and thick wear layer options. It is commonly used in commercial environments, retail stores, offices, and high-traffic residential areas such as hallways and living rooms. Look for commercial-grade SPC with a minimum 0.5mm wear layer for maximum durability.

How do I get a quote for a flooring project?

You can get a preliminary estimate using our free Flooring Calculator — simply enter your room dimensions, product preferences and contact details. For a detailed, fixed quote, connect with a local TradePlus installer who will conduct a site inspection, take accurate measurements and provide a comprehensive written quote. There is no obligation to proceed after receiving a quote.

How do I maintain my flooring?

Regular sweeping, vacuuming and damp mopping are generally sufficient for most flooring types. Use a pH-neutral cleaner and avoid excessive water on all floor types. Never use steam mops on hybrid or SPC flooring as the heat can damage the wear layer. Always follow the manufacturer's specific maintenance guidelines, which are included with every TradePlus product.

Can I upload my floor plan for a quote?

Yes. Customers can upload PDF, JPG, PNG and builder floor plans through the Get Quote section. Our AI estimation system will analyse the plans and provide a preliminary estimate. This is particularly useful for new builds and renovation projects where full floor plans are available.

Use our Installer Finder to locate verified flooring professionals servicing your suburb or postcode. Simply enter your location and browse profiles of local installers, including their specialties, ratings and reviews. All TradePlus installers are verified, licensed and insured professionals.

What is the minimum order quantity for flooring?

There is no strict minimum order quantity for residential projects. Flooring is sold by the box, and each box covers a specific area (typically 1.5m² to 2.5m² per box depending on the product). For commercial projects, larger minimum quantities may apply. Contact our team for commercial pricing and volume enquiries.

What is the wear layer and why does it matter?

The wear layer is the protective top coating on vinyl, hybrid and SPC flooring that determines scratch, stain and wear resistance. Wear layers are measured in millimetres (mm). For residential use, a minimum 0.3mm wear layer is recommended. For commercial use or high-traffic areas, 0.5mm or above is preferred. A thicker wear layer extends the life of the flooring and is usually reflected in a longer warranty period.

What subfloor preparation is required before installation?

The subfloor must be clean, dry, flat and structurally sound. Most flooring manufacturers require the subfloor to be flat within 3mm over a 1.8m span. High spots should be ground down and low spots filled with a suitable levelling compound. Moisture levels must also be within acceptable limits. Your TradePlus installer will assess the subfloor during their pre-installation inspection.

What flooring is best for homes with pets?

Hybrid Flooring and SPC Flooring are excellent choices for pet-friendly homes due to their scratch resistance, water resistance and ease of maintenance. Look for products with a thick wear layer (0.3mm or above) for maximum scratch protection. Avoid engineered timber or laminate in areas where pets regularly have access to water, as moisture can cause swelling and warping.

Can hybrid flooring be installed in bathrooms?

Yes, 100% waterproof hybrid flooring is suitable for bathrooms. Ensure all joins between the flooring and wet areas such as shower bases and bathtubs are properly sealed with a flexible waterproof sealant. The floating installation method means the floor can expand and contract naturally without warping. Always use a qualified installer for bathroom flooring projects.

Can I get flooring samples before purchasing?

Yes. Customers can request samples to compare colours, textures and finishes in their own home before making a final decision. Viewing samples in your actual space under your home's lighting is the best way to choose the right colour and tone. Contact us to arrange samples from our current product range.

Which flooring is best for kitchens?

Waterproof Hybrid Flooring and SPC Flooring are among the most popular kitchen flooring options. Both products can withstand spills, splashes and the high humidity typically found in kitchen environments. Avoid laminate flooring in kitchens unless it is specifically rated as water resistant. Look for products with a tight locking system to prevent moisture ingress between planks.
